What Is Treasure To You?

The news if full with statements and facts about the present condition of the economy. There is no short answer to the reality of why this nation and actually, the rest of the world, is facing economic crisis.  We are in this together and we will all learn tremendous lessons over the issues that are being discussed.

I could blog on for a long time on the who and why or even the where and when of this intolerant subject. References to the last days, such as, one world government, the AntiChrist, one type of money system. There has already been a large interest in the Euro as being used as the monetary system throughout the world. However, I would like to suggest that we must look into our own heart and see just what we value.

The scriptures have plenty of references to good time and bad times. Abundance and times of famine and how men were able to survive. The actual truth to all this is that people can survive anything when they put their trust in God and His plan for their lives.  What we treasure is what we gage our ability to find joy during the hard, abrasive moments in our lives. One scripture that I would like to key off of is:

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 16:1 ESV)

In this very clear statement we can understand that treasure is a controlling object in our relationship with life’s problems. We can acknowledge this or not, it still does not make it a false statement. Where you put your trust is where you keep your comfort. On the money we use at present here in America the inscription of “In God We Trust” is on that money.  How many though, actually really trust God. In a nation that claims to be a majority of Christians but respond to God as though He is an evil being with a grudge. This “what you can see” society judges wealth as a gauge to the level of success in someone’s life. This could not be more incorrect. The “treasure” that we should gauge success on is how much treasure have we laid up in heaven? How much trust do we have in God when we are unsure of our abilities to bring home the “bacon”? Jesus did say to the rich young man:

Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” (Matthew 19:21 ESV)

I do not think for moment that Jesus was telling him that having money is wrong, but I do believe he was saying, ‘Get rid of anything that takes your love from the Father.’ No matter what it is get rid of it! Put your trust in God.  The treasure that you seem to think is so powerful and unbreakable, is not. What is seen is temporal, what is not seen is eternal.

The balance to all this is sowing and reaping or bringing forth out of good or evil.

The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. (Matthew 12:35 ESV)

Treasure can be described as good or evil. Not by the treasure itself, in most cases, but how that treasure is used or respected. Having treasures here on this earth is not an evil or not a horrific patronizing thing. It is good to have treasures but do not abuse them nor place them higher than the One who has given them to you.

We all have a treasure that we carry with us: [ Treasure in Jars of Clay ]

But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. (2 Corinthians 4:7 ESV)

Power does belong to God, this is not debatable nor to be placed on the back burner of life. That is why throughout history we read story upon story on how God took people through economic crisis and they did not go in want. He is the answer to all this present crisis. He has tomorrow already set for us. Trust in Him and know that He is God and lay up your treasures in Him

This week decide what is important to you and what is your treasures.  Do not treasure fear and doubt but treasure faith and hope. Turn whatever you have that is taking your sight from God and place it aside and look to Him for all your provision and help.  He fails not!
