I Surrender All
Each day I realize how much more I need to surrender to Jesus. Serving Him for over 30 years in front-line ministry one would think that surrendering has been done at the beginning or at least most of it. It is like each day there is something more that must be surrendered for His sake! This scripture is resident in my heart as I type this journal:
I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Galatians 2:20 AMP.
As I am preparing for more of Him daily, it comes to mind the old song “I Surrender All”. You know the tune don’t you? Here are the words, just sing them or repeat them as a prayer:
All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
Refrain
I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
Refrain
All to Jesus, I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
Refrain
All to Jesus, I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
Refrain
All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!
Refrain
This song means to me that I must break away from my own independence and surrender to His supremacy in my life. How is that? Well, it is really tough when your flesh begins to wrestle with the will of God! He has delivered us from from eternal death into eternal life. It is a simple matter of surrender. But with me it is not that simple. Through prayer I have learned also that He is the Lord and I am the servant. I have cried out in prayer “How much more do you want?” I get the same answer, “All of you.” I thought that I had given it all, but each day I surrender more. I truly believe that if one walks with God he is challenged everyday about surrender.
Pray this: Lord, here I am again. I am willing to give all to you. That which is difficult to surrender give me the wisdom and strength to let go of it and give it to you! You are the God of my salvation and the deliverer of my sin. I surrender all to you even now as I pray. Amen.
Peace
Dennis
The every day challenge to surrender is truly a reality for the true believer. We are called to deny our old man, our humanity with its earthly passions and desires and it’s only possible through recognizing what has been accomplished for us in Messiah’s life death and resurrection. Your post is a good reminder of this fact. Thanks for the encouragement.
