Looking at the seed in my hand I realize that is is lifeless, yet it will produce a harvest that will feed a multitude! The depth of that reality, knowing that a small seed can produce enough to bring fullness to a multitude of people grips my heart. This purpose of death to bring life intertwines through the whole of God’s Word. The Lord came to this earth to produce a harvest of souls by himself falling to the ground and dying, That from His death, life came for and that life more abundantly – I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. (John 10:10-11 ESV)
Our lives are also a seed. We must die that life can come forth. Life that will bless Him and also testify of His great love toward us. Setting aside or dying out to those things that keep us from fully surrendering all that we have. The seed of any plant before it produces a new plant must fall to the ground and be watered. Paul referred to this life production by giving a spiritual progression - I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. (1 Corinthians 3:6 ESV) The seed is the Word (which certainly is not dead) but it still is a seed, lying dormant, which to the listener is as a dead seed but along comes the waterer. Which in turns waters the seed of the Word and then God, brings the increase to the heart sown. We all should be planters and waterers so that the increase of God’s kingdom continue - He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. (2 Corinthians 9:10 ESV) The miracle of the sown seed. Something so tiny can have so much influence when planted in the good ground and watered by the good Word!
When Jesus brings to our attention the tiny mustered seed He is referencing and metaphorically describing how just one seed can bring forth such multiple of seeds that others will continue to be planted – He compares this to the kingdom of God.“The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree… (Matthew 13:31-32 ESV) We must continue to plant seed in the hearts of people. Sowing the good Word into good soil that will produce a large harvest for His kingdoms purpose. Every time someone says that is a dead seed just remember that if it is planted and watered it will be able to produce a harvests that will help the multitudes….
Are you sowing, watering and witnessing an increase?
