Leaving behind those habits that would cause you to show an erroneous testimony is what repentance demands. Being a new person in Christ is what repentance exposes in your heart. To many people want the “old” life to be mixed with the new life in Christ. This is not possible and it will not bring acceptable results nor applicable mannerisms to others around you. The change of friends and surroundings is not the only change needed when you repent and ask for Jesus to save your soul. The change must come in your character and how you view life and the world around you. There must be a change of heart. The simplicity of salvation is not to become difficult or complex. Salvation comes through the repentance and the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior. The old life is passed away and behold the new one now exists. (2 Corinthians 5:17) The word “sanctified” is not to be misused as some sort of old fashioned “holiness” term that was never properly defined. Sanctification means to be separated unto to God for service. The Lord stated that His children are to be holy because He is holy! (1 Peter 1:15-16) The life that is to be followed is the life that is surrounded by God’s love and also surrendered to His holiness. He, the Lord, calls us out to come in to His place of security and dwelling. He invites us to live and move and have our being in Him… (Acts 17:28) His light casts out all darkness and reveals eternal life to our hearts. Light cannot dwell with darkness and sin does not exist in God’s plan for your future. Each person that has come to Him through Jesus His Son, who is able to save, must relinquish old habits of sin and rebellion and embrace the freedom of Christ. The liberty of salvation comes to those that are sincere and willing to pick up thier cross and follow Him… (Luke 9:23) Knowing the the price has been paid and that each person who is called by His Name are no longer their own but are now the temple of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 1:9)
The desires of the heart and the thoughts of the mind, after salvation, are determined to be followers of Christ and His Kingdom’s principles. The knowledge of sanctification and a life of holiness is an experience that is lived out everyday, not just the day of formal worship. Not just when the group of believers gather to corporately pray! This life, stripped of old habits, lives in the peace and harmony of the presence of God all the time! Serving God is a pleasure and an honor to those that love Him! The fellowship you choose may make you avoid the fellowship of God which He desires to have with you. The deepest meaning of salvation is to realize that you are redeemed from sin and death and brought into liberty and eternal life in Christ Jesus. Your habits that were formed before redemption must be broken at the Cross of Christ and the new life will begin with new practices which will be formed as you walk with Christ: Growing into Christ and being nurtured by His Spirit till you mature into the fullness of Him! (Ephesians 4:12-20)
