Redemption is a word that is defined as the act, process, or an instance of redeeming. This is really an accurate definition when applied to Christianity. The “act” of redemption begins with Jesus Christ giving His life for the purpose that humanity would be redeemed from sin. Set free from the obligation of the debt that was occurred because of the rebellion against God’s commands. This act was the most beautiful yet also the most horrific act known to man. Beautiful because of the compassion shown mankind but horrifying because of the death that Jesus suffered and the way it happened. He was beaten, scourged and crucified for our transgressions. (Isaiah 53:1-12) He became sin for us that we would become the redeemed of the Lord. This act was set in motion from the fall in the Garden of Eden and happened at the most appropriate time in history. Fulfilling all the prophetic word that was spoken and written for mankind to learn of God’s love. (Matthew 5:17-18; John 15:25) The establishment of the platform for redemption began as a prophetic statement to the author of sin and rebellion and was completed by Jesus Christ, the Suffering Servant, who died for all humanity. (John 19:30; Hebrews 1:1-3)
What this act took to be accomplished was started in the womb of virgin, Mary, the mother of Jesus. The birth of the Son of God was announced across the heavens and in the pastures of the land. The Savior is born to a virgin! Life is a process and Jesus came to live the life of a man so He could feel the temptations of such and conquer them all. (Philippians 2:5-8) The process defines the order of the series of events that led to the action that would change mankind for eternity. His patience with a cursed world who had turned from His gift of life and to the obedience He showed to the Father was the foundation for these series of events to happen that all would be redeemed who believed and repented of their sin. Setting the stage of Calvary for life to be redeemed from an eternal death in hell! This was the transformation point for Holiness to abolish sin and justice to free the guilty from a sentence of separation from God. (Revelation 5:9) This process continues on daily as man is transformed into the image of Christ.
The instant a person surrenders their heart to the Lord and confesses that Jesus is Lord, seeking to be forgiven of sin the redemption has happened. There are many testimonies, millions of them, that are instances of redemption! The instances are remembered and cataloged in the heart of each person. Yet, redemption is more than an instance in a life of a newly reconciled person, it is known that it happened instantly. The work of the Lord had been finished at Calvary and the price was paid for the debt owed. Salvation is not a process that takes days to accomplish it takes grace and a faith in God to be forgiven of sin, which there is a Godly sorrow for. (2 Corinthians 7:10) Sin no longer has its dominion or lordship over the redeemed of the Lord. (Romans 6:14) There is not a element of condemnation that keeps a person working for salvation, it is a gift that adds no condemnation. (Romans 8:1) In an instant, in a moment, by the beat of a sorrowful and repentant heart the mouth confesses unto God and salvation transforms the life forevermore.
What a noticeably different outlook a redeemed and transformed person has on life. Transformation makes a difference and the difference is eternal!
