When prayer goes up before the Lord as a sweet smelling incense there is a recognition of acceptance from God. (1 John 5:14) The prayers are filled with praise and requests. All of them are important and should always proceed from a heart of deep love for the Father. Praying is always guided by the Holy spirit whether those who pray realize it or not. Also, prayer sirs up the desires of the heart in such a way that these desires become the purpose of our living. The focus of our everyday spiritual tasks, not to take from God but to add to what He has desired for us all along. Reasoning with your desires is a dangerous exercise to get involved with. Reason from the mind of men is often opposite of what God would want for the heart and soul of a person.
The desires of the heart can be in excess of what the Lord is speaking to your heart to do and what He has planned for your life as a whole. That is why it is very important to come to the Lord with an open heart willing and pliable to His love and directives. The Holy Spirit begins to stir our hearts and the those things that contradict the Word of God or are contrary to the command of God should be removed. Keeping desires hidden in the heart where you may believe they are not noticed is an error of judgment. These desires if not put in the proper prospective can influence your decisions and future.
Some desires that can be stored are desires of the flesh and they can and will cause difficulties. (Romans 13:14)When prayer is offered it is really change of flesh to spirit. You are putting on the Lord Jesus Christ when you pray and giving over all that you desire to Him that He will sanctify it. The Lord wants us to walk in the Spirit so we will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-17) So as we put on Christ Jesus we put of the “old man”, the flesh which is full of corrupt and deceitful desires… (Ephesians 4:22)
The absolute in all this is there cannot be a combining of these desires without a fall out in a manner of sin and regret. Once David hid his desires in his heart and it cost him the loss of building the temple for God.That is a prime example of when you think you stand then you fall! (1 Corinthians 10:12) These desires David had were rooted in the flesh not the Spirit and stemmed not from God but from the world. (1 John 2:16) Keeping in stride with God and His grace for His children is a daily action of worship and prayer. Allowing the Holy spirit to sir up in you what is of God and what is of the flesh. Surrender those things of the flesh to God and do not let them cause you to offend the Kingdom of God and its King! Desires are part of who we are but when we became who He is we no longer own the right to those desires. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
