Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. (2 Timothy 2:23 NLT)

Words are very powerful and they can build up character or destroy a personality. Speaking in a negative fashion can birth results and reactions that will cause adversity in the heart. What you speak you may become. Sowing words into the heart of others will give strength to or weaken the character. Hearing the Word of God will bring strength and increase faith in the heart of people. God’s Word is active and powerful. What humanity needs is the embrace the Word and have faith in the promises of God. What the purpose of words are meant to do is encourage and exhort. Giving the listener hope and the conviction to move further into their purpose.

Words are what God uses to express His purpose for our lives and to correct us as we journey through this life. He gave commands to His prophets and to His disciples throughout the world and He still speaks to the hearts of people. When man will not obey God will use any means possible to get the attention of those He is trying to reach. (2 Peter 2:16) Containment of words is important so that you can discern and understand what was spoken. Also, the releasing of words can dull anxiety and birth peace in the heart (Philippians 4:6-7)

The purpose of not involving oneself in foolish and ignorant conversations is that they lead to nowhere positive. The schisms that are caused by these useless conversations are in not worthy of the creation of them. The hurt and pain and lack of maturity that couples up with this type of dispute is wearing on the personalities involved. Doctrinal speeches and dogmatic arguments  bring about the worse results. No one is invited into the Kingdom of God but driven back into a place of confusion and bitterness. Yes, having a conversation that is educational, spiritual and aligning itself with God’s Word is inspirational and spiritually rational. Often the disputes are brought about by arrogant religiosity and self-righteousness.  Pride is the engine of these disputes and the fuel is the competitive drive to win a argument no matter what the cost. Do not stay in the presence of a fool who speaks words that are foolish but depart and listen to words that will bring knowledge. (Proverbs 14:7; Proverbs 23:12) Spending time in prayer and with others of a spiritual depth and maturity will give you the ability to be nurtured. Never stop learning and never stop seeking knowledge that is full of truth. Debates can be healthy and bring in an opinion that will sharpen the already sharpen the will to receive instruction and also apply it. Having knowledge of the Word of God is what every person should seek after. (2 Timothy 2:15) Remembering to avoid foolish meaningless talk and words of error that will lead people into ungodliness. (2 Timothy 2:16)

Jesus always meant what He said and said what He meant. That is just the way we should hold our conversations. Centered around the Word of Truth and encouraging those around us. Giving hope to the hopeless and nurturing those who desire to grow in the Spirit of the Lord. What a novel concept: To be like Jesus in are talk, walk and life.
