They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” (Luke 24:32 ESV)

Two men walking with Jesus after His resurrection and they did not recognize Him. He talked with them about life and probably laughed with them. There were moments when their hearts burned within them but still there was not a recognition of Christ Jesus. The moments alone with Jesus and recognition is blurred. How often this may happen to others in prayer or in worship. Missing the essence of compassion or wisdom during a period of time when the Lord is so close. Israel did not recognize the commands of God nor His Holiness and just character in the midst of a deliverance. They questioned whether they should have ever left Egypt and all that it entailed. Here two men who new of Jesus and heard the great testimonies of His love, walked with Him and did not know it. How often has the Lord visited the troubled heart and was not noticed. During deep moments of worship and praise and He is not heard or seen spiritually because the problems blur the promises of God.

Then in a moment of communion they see Jesus. No, He did not peel of some mask or reconfigure His countenance so He would be seen. It was simply because of the choice to enter into communion with the Lord. Their eyes were opened and they were blessed by His presence and community. So many things can be causing you not to recognize Jesus in your life or circumstances. When Jesus came to the disciples He was walking on water in the midst of a great storm. (Matthew 14:26-28) They may have considered who it was but they were not sure…. During many storms the heart fills with fear and discouragement and leaves no room for His mercy and compassion. Faith is pushed away and doubt becomes the voice which is louder than faith. These attitudes and carnal postures that are taken during unreliable steps in life will definitely blocked the sight of the Savior from the heart. There must be faith and trust to see Jesus and to walk with Him. He will always be there and will never assume a distance from you.

When Jesus spoke in the temple and read the scriptures that described Him prophetically and fulfilled the those word they called Him Joseph’s the carpenters son. (Luke 4:21-22) Even though He stood in the midst of them and all their education and religion they still did not recognize Him. He spent thirty-three years on this earth and people denounced Him and did not recognize Him because they chose not to believe who He said He was. While on the Cross of Calvary many still did not recognize Him, but one sinner hung next to him and his eyes were opened to the Lord.

Truly, the Lord presence is with you and there are moments of sorrow, problematic times, a lack of communion, fear and doubt, religious attitudes and even education will keep you from recognizing the personage of Christ Jesus. He has promised to always be with us and to deliver us out of all are troubles. We will stay in perfect peace when our minds are stayed upon Him. (Isaiah 26:3) That we may see Him and be like Him….
