Making The Right Choice
Here we are again! A new year and a fresh start. The world of the ministry and the relation of a heart to God continues on into a new vision or the extension of an already productive lifestyle. Now is the time to think or if you will, ponder on just what choices will be made to help or comfort your life. We all know the traditional ones, whether they are secular or religious; new diet, no smoking, no drinking, exercise daily, fast regularly, pray an hour a day, go to church, read the bible, be a help in the church… So many choices and so many days ahead too maintain those choices
Paul wrote:
I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, (Philippians 3:13 AMP)
I particularly like this verse because it leads to some very intriguing spiritual principles found in Philippians 3. The point being is that “forgetting” or letting go of the past is a great way to start a new future or to move ahead into what God has for you! He states that the one “focus” or “aspiration” is to look forward to what lies ahead. Almost as though he has tunnel vision. Simply put, (I) want what God has for me and nothing else. Now that is the way to begin the new year!
This brings me to the great statement the Joshua made in his concluding words to the people of Israel.
And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15 AMP)
You have to love this, I really do! To put it modern and to understand it in living room jargon here it is: If you are going to diet then diet, or just go get a deep fried bologna sandwich with fries and eat! If you are going to quit smoking then quit or just light up a cigarette! If you are going to go to the gym then get up and go or just click the channel changer! If you are going to quit drinking then quit or pop another Bud! If you are going to go to church then get up and go or roll over and sleep! If you are going to pray, then pray or just keep gossiping!
Make a choice and make the right one! Your life is important to God and your family!
Peace
Dennis
